Freckles, a young mutt, has to flee his home when the new leader of his pack puts a hit on his name. On his way he meets a mysterious dog, named Diamonds, who turns out to be a legendary beast, Adamas.

From this starts an interesting friendship between two very different dogs, as the two start fixing the world, one pack at the time.
