Vervain's new life Part 6

Vervain was pacing back and forth over and over. So much so that his head was spinning. But he didn't know what else to do. He was nervous. More nervous than ever.

"Dude, calm down. You're gonna fall over soon!" Pinecone said. He had been staring Vervain pace for fifteen minutes now and started to get worried.

"No! YOU calm down!" Vervain shouted straight to the brown buck face. He instantly regretted it though.

"Sorry." He muttered, ears down, eyes on the ground. Pinecone smiled.

"Nah, is cool man. I know what you're going trough right now." he said as Vervain finally sat down.

"You do?" Vervain asked, not really believing what he heard. How could Pinecone understand?

"Yaa, man. When my kits were born, I was more nervous than a chicken in fox-den!"

"I suppose- YOU HAVE KITS!?" Vervain shouted, eyes round.

"Yaa, man! Thistle and Ivy, they my kits!" Pinecone said as it would be the most obvious thing in world.

Vervain remembered two young brown and white kits who often played around Pinecone, but he never guessed they were HIS.

"Any other secrets you have not told me?" Vervain sighed. It seemed the more he hanged around Pinecone, more he got confused.

"Okay Vervain! You can go inside now!"

Both bucks turned around surprised when they heard the voice of one of the medic-rabbits behind them. She was just coming out from Vervain's and Larch's burrow, smiling warmly.

"Cornflower!" Vervain gasped, running to her. "Is she alright?! What about the kits!? Please tell me they are fine!"

"Relax Vervain, both Larch and... THE kit are fine." Cornflower said.

"The kit? There was only one?" Vervain asked, little disappointed.

"Yeah. But he is a perfect combination of you two! You gotta go and see him yourself!" medic said, letting Vervain past her.

Vervain peeked inside the burrow and was instantly greeted with the most amazing sight: his beautiful mate with his... no, their, son. It was such a small ball of fur, golden and black, still blind, eagerly drinking milk.

"Hey sweetie. Come inside and look at our little boy!" Larch said exited, though little tired.

Vervain gulped and took few steps closer. The little one was surely little. Bit... too little.

"Is... he alright? Vervain asked, worried. "He is so small..."

Larch giggled. "He is fine sweetie. He gets his size from me. I was just as big as he is now and I'm still here!"

Vervain hopped closer and sniffed the little ball eagerly. Feeling a presence of another rabbit, the little one stopped his eating and turned around, clumsy.

"Haha. He seems to know his daddy!" Larch laughed.

The little one crawled closer to his father, letting out small squeaks. Vervain felt tears in his eyes. This was his son. His child. He had never thought this day would come! He! Vervain the general of Efrafa! The lowest form of rabbit there was had a beautiful wife and strong, let him be a little small, son!

With pride Vervain pressed his nose against his son's and cried with happiness.

Larch smiled warmly to the sight. "Shall we keep the name we thought for him?" Larch asked.

"If you want to my dear." Vervain said. He took the little ball of fur in between his paws and snuggled it with his nose.

"I promise. Nothing bad will never happen to you Red Oak!"
