Tahu woke up floating at the middle of the ocean on top of a log. He saw an island in the horizon and made his way there, as there was nothing else he could do. On the island he walked straight into a trap build by the matoran and was almost attacked by the junior guard. His elemental powers woke up in his panic. Their fight was interupted by Vakama, who suddenly bowed to Tahu, saying his name. Tahu, who had no memories beyond waking up in the ocean, was surprised, especially since the name felt right. He was told by Vakama that he was the reincarnation of the spirit of fire and that his duty was to protect the people of Mata nui. Tahu is proud, short-fused and fearless, but still unsure of his destiny on the island.

Vakama is the Turaga and the leader of Ta-koro. He is known for his calm and caring nature, but isn't afraid to use force in order to protect those he cares for. Vakama loves pups and often looks after the pack's young when the adults are working. He loves telling stories and singing. He has a fatherly aura to him. Vakama has powers of visions that he gets randomly. He has trained his skill a bit and can summon a vision when touching someone or something, though it doesn't always work.

Jaller (sometimes called Jala) is a young matoran who lives in Ta-koro and is part of the Junior Guard. Jaller's father, Jahmal, was the Captain of the Guard when Jaller was young, but died in a rahi-attack. Jaller's mom soon died of heart-break, and ever since Jaller was taken care of by the village in unison. Everyone expects Jaller to become the next Captain after he matures, including Jaller himself. He trains hard every day and takes his group of Junior guard-members to "missions" all the time. Jaller is loyal and protective, and even though he is good friend to those he cares for, he can be challenging and bit rude to those he doesn't trust. He is entirely loyal to his turaga.
